Sicily small ship cruises
Sicily and the Aeolian Islands provide some great opportunities for small ship cruises. Ancient and modern history, spectacular scenery, wonderful food and volcanos make for a great week exploring Sicily and the surrounding islands.
In ancient times Sicily was settled and run by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, Vandals, Normans and the Byzantine Empire. There are thousands of ancient sites, and they are all dominated by the great bulk of Mount Etna, standing nearly 11,000 feet above sea level (this can vary with each eruption).
The mixed history has created a very varied and exotic cuisine with a long list of exotic pastries, a range of meat dishes, plenty of pasta and fish all washed down with some local wine.
Aeolian Islands
Lipari is the capital of the Aeolian Islands, a cluster of small islands off that lie to the north of Sicily formed by volcanic actiivity, and they some are still active. Lipari has many architectural treasures and lies near the still active island volcano of Stromboli. Click here to see our Aeolian Islands cruise.
